Eddie’s back and busy brewing up his special blends of Intag coffee!
This is very good news to all the coffee drinkers in Cotacachi. At least those who crave REAL coffee, hand-roasted, freshly ground from real, organic coffee beans and brewed to perfection.
Actually, it’s old news to locals, because I got so excited about Eddie’s return, that I forgot to post this blog months ago when he re-opened. But for those coffee drinkers who may be visiting Cotacachi, you won’t want to miss the superb coffee treats Eddie serves up.
Eddie with his big whoppin’ coffee roaster.
While many locals in Cotacachi are content to settle for a glass of pseudo coffee in the form of Nescafe granules stirred up in a cup of hot water, those cafe connoisseurs who crave a cuppa cappuccino, complete with caffeine and cream, are heading for Cafe Rio Intag in droves. Intag coffee is some of the very best coffee in Ecuador. We think perhaps, it is the best in the world.
After months of success last year at his coffee shop on Bolivar in the Casa Cultura building, Eddie closed up shop and disappeared for many months. He considered opening a coffee shop in Quito, but finally decided to return to Cotacachi and try his luck in San Francisco square.
For many of us locals, the return of Eddie himself is wonderful, because he has a great personality. We not only enjoy the coffee, but his wonderful hospitality and friendship.
He reports that he is much happier with the new location. “The old location was beautiful: in a fine old brick and stone building and business was good. But this location is even more lucrative and best of all, I get to express my creativity much more. I’m decorating this space to fit my own personal preferences. That wasn’t possible in the old location.”
Shop interior. There are comfortable seats for hanging out, lots of books and magazines to read and plans for a cozy space with fireplace downstairs in the back.
Gary and I aren’t really coffee drinkers, but we stop by occasionally for a jolt of java and have never been disappointed. Today we each had a delicious frozen mocachino.
Here’s one of Eddie’s great coffee drinks.
Eddie’s new coffee shop is very different from the old one. He’s a few steps away from Banco Pichincha. A rarity in Cotacachi are tables outside so customers can enjoy the fine weather and check out the goings and comings of locals and visitors who crowd the square.

More happy cafecito customers.
Stop by and treat yourself. In addition to a wide range of coffees, including freshly roasted coffee beans to take home, you can also stuff yourself with homemade muffins, sandwiches and sweet snacks.
